Greek-US relations in the aftermath of 2012 US Elections

Greece USA Tuesday November 6 2012, and the US elections of 2012 are underway. Currently the US public and administration are concentrated to the US national elections. Of the two candidates, one will be able to the lead the USA for the upcoming four year term; will it therefore be Barack Obama the present President of the United States of America or Mitt Romney the Republican Candidate for the Presidency?

No matter the outcome, per the interests and relations of the USA to Greece and vice versa, some things will need to be stressed. Others clarified. Issues will need to be raised. Considering both countries fiscal, civil and security challenges and considering the extensive need to restructure and redraw US-Greek bilateral relations, looking at the subject from a strategic point of view.

Bill Shankly, the legendary manager of Liverpool FC, once famously said, “Football is not a question of life or death. It is more important than that”. As I sit here in my small Dutch village surrounded by a sea of depressed orange I see his point. The Dutch suffered a premature exit from the Euro 2012 championship so ably hosted by Poland and Ukraine because they were rubbish. No schadenfraude here. Now, before I venture further I must point out to those of you who mistakenly confuse 'football' with that armoured interruption that takes place elsewhere that I am talking of the “beautiful game”, the “world game” in which for a moment an air-filled sphere of plastic becomes the stuff of dreams and nightmares. The footballing gods being the humorous bunch they are have tonight pitted the Germans against the Greeks in the quarter-final. That should prove feisty.

NATO Τo ΝΑΤΟ θα πραγματοποιήσει την 25η σύνοδο κορυφής στο Σικάγο των ΗΠΑ, στις 20-21 Μαΐου 2012. Εκεί θα επανεξετάσουν τις αποφάσεις που ελήφθησαν στη Σύνοδο Κορυφής της Λισαβόνας τον Νοέμβριο του 2010, με σκοπό να αναπτύξουν τις βασικές πολιτικές της Συμμαχίας και να επιβεβαιώσουν τους διατλαντικούς δεσμούς.
